Welcome to Miliseum

Miliseum is a museum of military history situated close to the southern Swedish small town of Skillingaryd. The museum tells us about the life of soldiers serving in the National Army System* and their families, together with the operations of military engineers units. Miliseum is situated within a still active area for military exercises, the Skillingaryd Camp.

*The National Army System, introduced by King Karl XI in 1682, was a unique model of military recruitment. Under the system groups of farmers were made responsible for supplying a fully equipped and trained soldier to fulfil the needs of the Swedish military forces in times of war. In peacetime the soldier tended the allotment or croft that was allocated to him. In this way the soldier could pay for his own upkeep. The system of “allotment” soldiers was in place for more than two hundred years.
