The fortification

The fortification in its actual form was founded in 1635 and is a precursor to the Engineer Corps.
They were primarily responsible for the construction and maintenance of the country's fixed fortifications. It was a corps of
specially trained officers who were assisted by commissioned soldiers, mainly from the infantry.
The head of the Fortification was usually also the highest head of the country's fortifications. Militia
"Ingenjörhall" opens with an exhibition on the history of the Fortification and this has as one of its own
central parts an exhibition about Jönköping Castle.
